Articles — Baby and Infant Problems
We live in a more stressful environment now and apart from the great joy of bringing another life into the world, it is of a major concern and worry to us, especially to new parents.
As parents we understand an unhappy or sick baby is chaos to the whole family. Doctor and midwifes visits, plunketline, pharmacies etc all takes a hammering and you still don't know what is wrong or what to do. The baby will cry, and then mum will cry, dad has no idea what to do and will quickly go for a drive to have a quiet moment and thinking what to do next.
ACM looks to find the cause of the problem and find the right method to solve it. If you have not found out the problem and start treatment it will lead to new problems occurring like The Medical Classic of The Yellow Emperor says "Old illness not gone, new one already formed".
Common problems like fever, irritable and cranky, sleeping problem, reflux and not eating, diarrhea, asthma, eczema, constipation, rashes, ear aches, crying all the time, sinus, running nose, hay fever all relate to the internal organs.
ACM says children before seven belong to the "full yang body". According to yin yang theory "Yang" represents hot, upward, changing, fire, fast... etc "Yin" represents cold, downward, static, water, slow...etc
The lung is the upward organ and is delicate and when looking at children this is the main organ to focus on.
The Medical Classic of the Yellow Emperor says, "The lung doesn't like the hot" (fire against the metal).
Because the baby and infants have a "full yang body" then they are easy to get hot inside. The lung is a delicate organ and if it gets to hot it will not work properly and it will express out as illness like asthma and coughing eczema, skin problems (the lung governs the breathing system and the skin).
The lung is coupled with the large intestine and when your lung is hot it will make the large intestine dry leading to constipation.
The lung is open to the nose, and when the lung is not working properly then the nose will get sinus, running nose and hay fever.
Because the baby has a "full yang body" it is very "hot inside" or another way of putting it is the heat is excessive in the body and the water is deficient. The kidney controls the water and is open to the ear that is why it is easy to get ear ache or infection. Excess heat leads to being hot and getting fever or night sweats easier.
Being hot and dry (sometimes caused by night sweating) your baby will feel irritable and cranky and find it difficult to go to sleep. If the liver receives the heat from the kidney the baby will get cranky, get cramps.
The liver governs the tendons and blood. If the liver is hot it also will be against the stomach and spleen, when the stomach and spleen is not functioning properly the baby will get reflux, indigestion, and diarrhea.
As a baby cannot talk it will express its discomfort by crying. If you and your doctor can't see anything obviously wrong then you can look to the above situations as a guide.
What Can I Do?
We recommend three different approaches:
- Food-herb formula's (mainly No 2 and 6) to cool down the lungs, kidneys and the whole body
- Qigong acupressure into the relevant organ channel (we can teach parents to do themselves)
- Qigong energy healing into the relevant organ channel
