Articles — Pimples
Pimples are more common in the younger age group especially on the face, upper back (Lung yin deficiency). When you are young, the Qi and blood is quite strong. The state of all the organs is shown by the face being more reddish, shiny and oily, and secretion is more active leading to pimples.
ACM says the lung governs the skin. If the lungs are strong, then the skin will also be strong and easy to fight the bacteria. It then will not be easy to get pimples.
Before the body is mature, it needs massive nutrition to support the body's growth, especially during puberty.
The kidney governs the reproductive system and when the body is growing it requires a lot of essence from the kidneys, then the lungs (metal) have to support the kidneys (water), as it is the mother of the kidney (metal generates the water).
For older people in general, pimples are mostly caused by weakness in the lungs and kidney and by liver blockage. The lungs weakness affects the skin's fighting ability which attacks the bacteria that cause pimples. It is quite common to see women getting pimples before their period, as the blood accumulates and gets the liver hot. The liver transfers the heat to the lung (lung yin deficiency) and the heat will cause the lung to become weak and pimples will result.
If the pimples are "whiteheads" and watery, it usually shows that the lung Qi is weak and cold. If the pimples are red, the lung is hot (yin deficiency).
ACM suggests to tonic the kidneys and nourish the lung with the food-herb formulas. Within two weeks you will see a change, and within a month the results will normally be obvious.
